The Way to Cook Inspired by Julia Child

I have found myself really enjoying learning to cook. It seems that it's been in me for many years but life has been full and it hadn't seemed like something I had time to pursue. Til this past summer when I felt discouraged with menu planning and my lack of creativity...I prayed that God would please help me be inspired.
Well, I had no idea that shortly after that, the movie "Julie and Julia" came out. Wow! I pulled out my cookbook "The Way to Cook" by Julia Child and asked my daughter if she would like to begin some cooking from there. I'll share pictures one day from those times. For now, I want to introduce my most recent joy: Cooking!
I'm learning to enjoy wandering through the fruits and vegetable section at the grocery store. Finding new ingredients like leeks to cook with.
Today I made Chicken Kiev for lunch. Mmmmm... it was so good. I love something baked in the oven on a winter Sunday. The recipe called for 1 1/2 sticks of butter. I used 1/2 of that. I'm sure I could use even less, but that was a good start. That recipe was from the classic Better Homes and Gardens checkered cookbook!
I'm looking forward to experimenting a bit with our microwave-making more than popcorn and reheating food.
And sometime I'll share about the soups I've been making from our church's soup kitchen cookbook. Yum! Those have warmed up some cold and dreary days.

That was fun...just reading your thoughts about cooking. You probably don't realize that you have inspired me again...as I have done more cooking since I came home from your place after Thanksgiving, than I've done in the last 15 years or so. So thanks! Cooking that Leak/potato soup was such fun. I've loved your Julia Childs things...and especially seeing the pictures. Loved your headings and the frame. Can't wait to see what you put in it. Reading your blog is like visiting with you. (I did go on to the No Whining one...and loved it). Love, Mom

We loved Julie/Julia too!
Unfortunately, I still like the IDEA of cooking, but not the ACTION of it!

I did spend some time this weekend making some low-carb treats for Mrs. Schmenkman's visit. I am a good baker. Sugared pecans, chocolate protein bars, and chocolate chip cookies, YUM!

Hey, I think you could eat them all as well, no flour or sugar. Well, there were oats in one, do you do oats? I can't remember. I'm thinking no, but you could omit them, I added them anyway.

Your site is looking BEAUTIMOUS!!!!

Sorry, no inspiration for me-I just stopped cooking; I passed the baton to my retired husband. He loves it. Isn't it great though to find joy and inspiration in something?! The good old checkered cookbook. I used it for years. Love the new look of your blog. It should inspire you to keep blogging!
